axle weighing
our story
Formed in 1991 to produce equipment to combat vehicle overloading, Axtec has developed into Britain and the world’s leading manufacturer of axle weighing systems of all types. Uniquely, Axtec has the technical expertise in the diverse fields of electronics design and manufacturing, software, precision fabrication and specialist construction, all pivotal to achieving unparalleled accuracy. It is vital also to provide the technical support to keep these products at optimal performance, and Axtec’s weighbridge service team has averaged 99.27% uptime over the last two years.
Axtec developed and operate the only Weighbridge Test Vehicles compliant with the testing regulations for dynamic axle weighbridges. Used to calibrate and check the accuracy of new or existing dynamic weighbridges, these unique trucks are essential to ensure our exacting standards are met over the lifetime of the equipment.
Research and continuous development is an ongoing endeavour at Axtec. Our directors are all hands-on, and see first-hand the opportunities for improvement, applying their many years of experience to finding ever more inventive solutions. Because so many elements of the production process are in-house, not contracted-out, improvements can be fast-tracked. A prototype component can be fabricated in a couple of hours, then tested, adjusted and improved until it’s right, all on site. Lessons learned from problems solved remain in the business, adding to the company’s fund of technical knowledge, which in turn leads to better products.
The result is the best, most comprehensive range of solutions to vehicle overloading. This includes a range of solutions for various transport applications. For example, a dynamic axle weighbridge at the exit from a supermarket RDC will protect hundreds of outgoing trucks from overloads every shift, but it’s no help to an operator whose trucks leave base empty and return empty; similarly for multi-drop operations, or where trucks deliver and collect. For those operations, Axtec OnBoard offers a cost-effective, practical solution.
At our factory in Runcorn, Axtec’s unrivalled facilities enable us to work more efficiently to manufacture, install and develop better products to help our customers overcome their challenges. On site, we have three dynamic axle weighbridges and a full-size conventional weighbridge, as well as a full-length inspection pit for installing and developing OnBoard Axle Load Indicators. There is a fully-equipped fabrication shop for the production of the precision engineered steel weighbridge pit and weighing platform, and electronic production from population of bare PCBs using our high-tech surface-mount production line to assembly, completion and testing, all on site. Software is written in-house too, enabling Axtec to react to customer requirements and maintain continuous product improvement.
Axtec is the only manufacturer specialising exclusively in axle weighing equipment. We are unique in having our own, in-house construction team, building the perfectly flat concrete approaches essential for accurate axle weighing. Axtec manufactures the world’s most accurate dynamic weighbridge, approved to Class 1, Class 0.5 or even Class 0.2 with an accuracy of 0.1% on test, 0.2% in service.
