TSL Lighting, the Basingstoke-based lighting and rigging company, has partnered with Axtec to install the axle weighing specialist’s OnBoard Load Indicators across its vehicle fleet. The system equips TSL Lighting with precise, real-time axle load monitoring to ensure the fleet operates legally while minimising potential safety risks associated with overloading.
Specialising in supplying lighting and rigging equipment for high-profile live events, TSL Lighting’s services span concerts, fashion shows, film, television and theatre across the UK and internationally. TSL’s fleet includes two Mercedes Actros 18-tonners, two DAF LF 7.5-tonnners and four VW Crafters, used around the clock to deliver event equipment under stringent time constraints. The 7.5-tonners and the VW Crafters are now equipped with Axtec’s OnBoard Load Indicators.
Managing weight distribution presents a logistical challenge for the company, particularly when ‘loading out’ post-event, with equipment often reorganised into different packing cases and onto different vehicles. With Axtec’s OnBoard Load Indicator, drivers now have access to precise, real-time weight data at their fingertips, providing peace of mind that each vehicle complies with load limits before they hit the road. Importantly, the display is mounted in the rear bodywork of the vehicles to allow fast, efficient weight distribution across the load area while equipment is loaded.

Axtec’s OnBoard Load Indicator provides the driver with accurate, real-time axle loads, Loading is represented intuitively in colour, showing legal axles in green, approaching maximum in amber and overloads in red. This data is supported by a simple colour-coded graphic showing pallets of bricks which increase or decrease in size in proportion to weights. All the necessary information is displayed to the driver on one easy-to-read screen, to enable them to utilise the vehicle safely right up to its legal maximum, without the risk of inadvertent overloads.
