Axle weighing specialist Axtec, has supplied a total of 45 Axtec OnBoard Load Indicators to Johnsons Hotel, Restaurant & Catering Linen, the Southall-based linen and laundry supplier to the restaurant and catering industries nationwide. The fleet comprises 3.5-tonne panel vans from MAN, Mercedes and Renault, plus DAF 7.5 tonners.
All vehicles are maintained by Seven Asset Management.
As linen collected from establishments is often wet, weights can be difficult to predict and vary considerably day-to-day. With multiple collections and deliveries made over a small area of operation, axle over-loading, therefore, represents a significant risk. To eliminate this risk whilst maximising productivity, Axtec’s OnBoard Load Indicator accurately monitors vehicle loading and unloading, and ensures Johnsons’ vehicle fleet runs legally and, above all, safely.
It’s crucial we have precise, real-time measurement of load weights,” said Mick Freeman, Logistics General Manager at Johnsons. “We’ve had experience of other rather inaccurate systems historically, but Axtec came recommended and we had the vehicles spec’d with their OnBoard Load Indicator.
“We can see at a glance whether an axle is over or under,” he said, “and the system appears very accurate. Drivers describe ease-of-use, and acceptance across the fleet has been very good. There’s total peace-of-mind that we’re running legally and safely.”
Axtec’s successful OnBoard Axle Load Indicator is already installed on tens of thousands of rigid vehicles up to 32 tonnes GVW. It provides the driver with real-time axle loads, presented by a simple graphic showing pallets of bricks which increase or decrease in size in proportion to weights. Axle loading is represented intuitively in colour, showing legal axles in green, approaching maximum in amber and overloads in red. All the necessary information is displayed to the driver on one easy-to-read screen, to enable him to utilise the vehicle safely right up to its legal maximum, without the risk of inadvertent overloads.
